Artificial plants are easy to maintain.

Dracaena deremensis “Janet Craig compacta,” a readily available cultivar, is enjoyed by crested geckos as a source of shelter.

Ficus benjamina ranks as one of the best functional species as long you use older plants with woody stems and thick foliage. This usually requires pruning to induce branching. The rooted cuttings with sparse foliage commonly offered in the plant trade are not as readily used by these lizards.

The plants shown here are types that primarily serve as shelters because of their stacked leaves. In general, species that have broad stacked leaves, such as some of the bromeliads (left), dracaenas (middle), and sansevierias (right), are good choices.
